New Orleans Trip

Amanda planned a great trip for us over the Memorial Day weekend. We loaded up in the car Friday afternoon as she got off work and headed five and a half hours south of Memphis, TN to New Orleans, LA. The drive was easy and all the Memorial day traffic must of been on some other route than ours. We took lots of small snacks to keep her and the little one well fed on the drive. The weekend was amazing. We spent most of our time walking around the French Quarter checking out shops and cafes. There was still hundreds that we did not get to see. New Orleans might be the best place on the planet to people watch! There were some crazies out and lots of nice ones too. We decided it was very much like Paris except the people were friendly in NOLA. It was definitely as dirty as Paris. The French Quarter had the same smell, ICK!Our first morning there we woke up bright and late. Felt really good to sleep in and not have dogs to worry about. We headed out to find breakfast and stumbled across a fun little cafe. The Somethin Else Cafe, "because Dat food is somethin else," was a little whole in the wall joint with good coffee and food. Amanda had a BLTA (with Avacado) and I tried some
strange New Orleans local fair called Boudin Balls. It was good but not something I would order every day. We kept going back to a place called Cafe Du Monde. So did the everyone else in the city, it was packed every single day and at all hours of the day. Their specialty is cafe au lait and beignets. Just their regular coffee was good as well. The put Chicory in it which is a bit different but magically delicious. On our second day there we went and did a swamp tour. A short bus ride out to the swamps and we boarded a swamp boat. Lots of gators and birds. It was a really nice, fun tour. I would do it again. The rest of the time we took it easy, tried new foods, and shopped some more. Amanda and I both had a great time. Looking forward to making the trip again with family and friends when they are in town.
